केदारनाथ यात्रा करने वाले श्रद्धालुओं में केदारानाथ शिवलिंग की कहानी के बारे में जानने की उत्सुकता बहुत रहती है। इसके पीछे भी एक दिलचस्प कहानी है, जैसा कि हमने इतिहास वाले भाग में बताया है, कि भगवान शिव पांडवों से मिलना नहीं चाहते थे। लेकिन पांडव भी अपनी लगन के पक्के थे और वे भगवान शिव के दर्शन के लिए हर जोखिम उठाने के लिए तैयार थे। जैसे ही पांडव भगवान शंकर से मिलने केदार पहुंचे तो भगवान ने बैल का रूप धारण कर लिया और अन्य पशुओं में जाकर मिल गए। हालांकि इस बात का आभास पांडवों को हो गया था, लेकिन इस सच को सामने लाने के लिए पांडव भीम ने अपना विशाल रूप धारण कर दो पहाड़ों पर अपना पैर फैला दिया। अन्य सब पशु तो बाहर निकल गए, लेकिन बैल के रूप में शंकरजी पांडव के पैर से नीचे से जाने के लिए तैयार नहीं हुए, जब भीम ने झपट कर बैल की त्रिकोणात्मक पीठ का भाग पकड़ा। बस उसी समय से भगवान शंकी की बैल की पीठ की आकृति-पिंड के रूप में बस गए और आज तक केदारनाथ के रूप में पूजे जाते हैं।

All the other animals came out, but Shankarji in the form of a bull was not ready to go under the feet of the Pandavas, when Bhima pounced and caught the triangular back part of the bull. From that very time, Lord Shanki settled in the form of the body of the bull's back and is worshiped as Kedarnath till today. |
